Director of Audit led delegation to Greater Bay Area
The Director of Audit, Professor Nelson Lam, led a delegation of the Audit Commission on 6 July for a three-day visit to three cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), namely Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen. During the trip, the delegation met with officials of the Audit Office of Guangdong Province, the Guangzhou Municipal Audit Bureau, the Zhuhai Municipal Audit Bureau and the Shenzhen Municipal Audit Bureau to gain an understanding of the latest development of auditing work in the GBA.
On the first day of the trip, Professor Lam called on the Audit Office of Guangdong Province and met with its Director Mr Ma Xuebin. They discussed the latest situation of the auditing profession in the GBA and also the application of the spirits of the 20th National Congress, the "two sessions", and the important speech delivered by President Xi Jinping in the first meeting of the Central Auditing Commission under the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee to auditing work. They also had a preliminary discussion on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Audit Conference, which was planned to be resumed this year following its suspension since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic. The delegation then met with the Director-General and officials of the Guangzhou Municipal Audit Bureau on the same day and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest about auditing. In its subsequent visits to the Zhuhai Municipal Audit Bureau and the Shenzhen Municipal Audit Bureau on 7 and 8 July respectively, the delegation met with the Directors-General and officials of the two bureaux and had in-depth conversations on issues such as the promotion of co-operation and exchanges among audit organisations in the GBA, big data auditing and information system construction. In the trip, the delegation visited various locations to study the up-to-date trends of natural resources and environmental conservation, as well as urban planing in different areas of the GBA.
"It is my pleasure to visit cities in the GBA and meet with our counterparts in government audit of the Audit Office of Guangdong Province and the Audit Bureaux of various cities. The auditing profession has a bigger role to play on the supervisory front, as co-operation between cities in the GBA grows closer. In this trip, we had extensive exchanges and interactions with auditing organisations at the provincial and municipal levels, which allowed us to gain a more solid grasp of the trend in auditing in the GBA and to forge stronger bonds with our peers in different areas. Putting our supervisory role into full play, we will help promote the in-depth integration and co-ordinated development of Hong Kong and other GBA cities for building a beautiful bay area ideal for living, working and travelling," said Professor Lam.
Officials accompanying Professor Lam on the trip included the Deputy Director of Audit, Mr Ken Liang; Principal Auditors Ms Flora Wan and Mr Anthony Lo; and Senior Auditor Mr Allan Wong of the Audit Commission. The delegation returned to Hong Kong on the afternoon of 8 July.
