Athletes of Audit Commission had an energetic day out at CPA Sports Carnival

On 4 May 2024, athletes of the Audit Commission (Audit) stood ready and eager at the Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground, Diamond Hill to showcase their prowess at the CPA Sports Carnival 2024 co-organised by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Society of Chinese Accountants & Auditors.

Hosting over a thousand sports enthusiasts from some forty professional accounting organisations, the athletic gala was also graced by a number of dignitaries.  Among the invited officiating guests were Wang Songmiao, Secretary General and Li Xuhong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Administration and Finance, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Christopher Hui, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, Edmund Wong, Legislative Council Member (Accountancy), Dr. Kelvin Wong, Chairman of the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council and Thomas Wu, Wong Tai Sin District Officer.

Audit served as a supporting organisation of the carnival again this year and sent ten of its athletically inclined staff members to the games.  While all outdoor races were eventually brought to a standstill by rain, some of the physical fitness events went on indoors.  Our Senior Examiner Carol Chan and Examiner Ricky Wong breezed through the women’s plank event and the men’s push-up event respectively with excellent results.

Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, attended as an officiating guest of the carnival for the second year in a row.  In cheering for the department’s athletes, he compared the weather to the circumstances encountered at work, and encouraged Audit staff to, even amid rain and wind, keep the flames of passion alive and rise to the ever-shifting challenges as a team.  He also urged colleagues to exercise more to stay physically and mentally healthy, and shared that if they found it hard to fit regular workouts into their busy schedule, they might still stay active by adding more steps to their daily routine, which would bring health benefits.

Officiating guests and representatives of supporting organisations kicked off the carnival.

Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, shared at the opening ceremony that,
even amid rain and wind, accountants would be poised to overcome every hurdle
and hardship by upholding professionalism.  He believed that there would
always be rainbows after the rain and urged his fellow accountants
to join hands in striving for the future.

Officiating guests stretched and relaxed by doing Baduanjin warm up exercise
at the opening ceremony.

The CPA Sports Carnival brought the accounting industry together
for an enjoyable day of sports and networking.

The athletic team of Audit took a group photo.  Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit,
encouraged colleagues to do more exercise, which would be beneficial
to the body and the mind, and help in maintaining a work-life balance.

While the rain kept Audit’s relay team from hitting the tracks,
it had not dampened the spirits of the team members,
who all looked forward to another chance to represent the department soon.

Our Senior Examiner Carol Chan did well in the women’s plank challenge.

Examiner Ricky Wong completed the men’s push-up challenge with flying colours.
