Audit staff visited the National Security Exhibition Gallery
On 22 August 2024, Prof. Nelson Lam, Director of Audit, led some of the Audit Commission (Audit) staff on a visit to the National Security Exhibition Gallery at the Hong Kong Museum of History in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Spanning over 1,100 square metres, the gallery is divided into six zones covering various themes such as the histories of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China and the return of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to China, the twenty major fields of the “Holistic Approach to National Security”, as well as laws and developments related to national security. These displays provide visitors with an all-round perspective on how national security, as an essential foundation for the security of Hong Kong, our homes and people, promotes prosperity and stability of the society.
Prof. Lam said that with its direct bearing on people’s lives, national security had long made its way into public consciousness. Under the support of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR and the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of the HKSAR set up the first ever thematic gallery in Hong Kong dedicated to the systematic promotion of national security. From the exhibition, the public could gain a clear, comprehensive and step-by-step understanding of the implication of safeguarding national security and its importance to the long-term orderliness and wellness of the city.
Staff members of Audit will take their turns to visit the gallery in the near future. Prof. Lam hoped that from their visits to the exhibition, colleagues could strengthen what they had already known on the safeguarding of national security and, at the same time, keep themselves updated with the latest development of this important issue. It is by learning from the past that we gain insight for the future, which we can put into good use in enhancing our service to the public.
Audit staff took a group photo at the venue of the National Security Exhibition.
Audit staff were all ears as the docent gave a detailed introduction on the exhibition.
In addition to various display boards and exhibits, the gallery also features
animation and game zones to give visitors an engaging experience.
Prof. Lam (eighth left) said that as a member of the HKSAR government and,
at the same time, the Hong Kong public, he would not miss the chance to visit
Hong Kong’s first ever national security education base in person.
Some colleagues said they looked forward to visit the gallery again with their families.
