(1) Entry requirements

The two departmental grades in Audit Commission are as follows:-

(2) Career prospects

Auditors may be promoted to Senior Auditors, Principal Auditors and then higher directorate ranks. Examiners may be promoted to Senior Examiners and then Chief Examiners. Examiner Grade officers who have obtained a membership from a recognised professional accountancy body or acquired the necessary post-graduate working experience may apply for appointment as Auditors when the Audit Commission conducts a recruitment exercise to fill Auditor vacancies.

* Candidates having a bachelor’s degree but without professional accountancy qualification, if selected, will enter at two points below the minimum of the pay scale (i.e. Master Pay Scale Point 27).

(3) Terms of appointment and fringe benefits

New appointees will normally be appointed on Civil Service probationary terms for three years, before they are considered for appointment on the prevailing permanent terms. Auditors and Examiners are entitled to general fringe benefits in the Civil Service including paid leave, medical and dental benefits, and where appropriate, housing benefits.
